During the 2017 FRATZ International festival, two labs were established in which mixed teams of artists from the field of new music and performers conducted research into music theater for very young audiences. Klangstücke (Sound Pieces) arose as a further development from the labs: two musical performances for very young audiences that strongly vary from each other both musically and formally.
How can music be made visible? The answer to this question is a Klangquadrat (Sound Square) composed of 3x3 sounds. It can be played on, song on, danced on and used to make music. If the sounds are followed into the zones, choreographies of the musical bodies in space are created, sensory and funny, following strict rules and always remaining surprising. In the magical sound lab Schnürchen (Tiny Twine), visible and invisible threads connect three stations to each other in space. Three sorcerer’s apprentices have brought their own material, set it up and are investigating these sounds and noises. Marbles, a water glass and other everyday objects, a disguised violin and poetic-abstract objects made from paper, along with a microphone and loudspeaker. The things develop their own lives and join each other.

Theater o.N., based in Prenzlauer Berg, has existed for nearly 40 years as an association of artists and creates cultural programming for people of all ages, regardless of their social or cultural background. One constant focus is performing arts programming for very young audiences, ages 2 and up. Theater o.N. constantly seeks out collaboration with artists from other genres, in this case, from the fields of music theater and new music.
